Bati run riot with 40-12 victory in World Cup opener

FIJI Bati made a strong start with a commanding 40-12 victory, leading 28-0 at half-time through an impressive attacking display.

Debutant Solomone Saukuru scored twice, while Waqa Blake, Jacob Saifiti, Taane Milne, Kitione Kautoga and Caleb Navale also crossed the tryline. Brandon Wakeham added six conversions.

Captain Apisai Koroisau said the team had executed its plans well in the first half, despite a scrappier second period.

“We knew we were going to start fast today, and we did that,” he said.

The victory gives Fiji confidence ahead of their clash against Australia next week.

Koroisau acknowledged the challenge, saying the Bati would give everything in their next match.
