Seven rounds into the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, the top of the table could hardly be tighter. Defending champions Medeama SC, Hearts of Oak and FC Samartex 1996 are all on 14 points, with Aduana FC close behind.
Medeama’s unbeaten start ended on Matchday 7 at the Nsenkyire Arena. Joshua Fuseini put Samartex ahead in the second half, Dominic Amponsah levelled late on, and Christian Agyenim Boateng won it for the hosts deep into stoppage time. Medeama still sit top, but the gap has gone.
Hearts of Oak, who opened the season with two straight wins under new head coach Nebojša Kapor, ground out a 1-0 win over Vision FC in Tema, with Kwesi Asmah scoring four minutes from time.
Asante Kotoko are back on track too. A 2-1 home win over ten-man Young Apostles at Baba Yara, with goals from Hubert Gyau and Solomon Nsoh Asaah, followed an earlier result their fans had waited years for: a first win over Heart of Lions in more than a decade.
Promoted Port City FC have been one of the stories of the early season. A 3-1 win over Bechem United in Round 5 put them among the leading group, and although they were held by a late equaliser on Matchday 7, they look comfortable in the top flight. Fellow newcomers AshantiGold also have the season’s first hat-trick to their name, scored by striker David Gyamfi.
The fixture everyone is counting down to is the Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, scheduled for Matchday 13, December 4-7, at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. With three teams level on points, the table will look different again by then.
