Barça 2-2 (5-4) Igualada HC: Spanish Super Cup champions!

Barça are champions of the Spanish Super Cup. In a truly thrilling match, tense and full of twists and turns, Ricard Ares's side defeated Igualada in a penalty shootout 5-4, to win the title for the fifth consecutive time at the Pavelló d'Esports d'Olot.

Ojeda scored Barça's two goals during regular time and extra time, while Alabart converted the decisive penalty, helped by a crucial save from Arnau Martínez.

Igualada take the lead

Barça threatened first, with a shot from Alabart that was saved by Igualada keeper Codony. However, it was Igualada who opened the scoring, the goal came from Llanes, who beat Arnau Martínez to make it 1-0.

Barça then had to come from behind and soon after, Barroso also tested the opposing goalkeeper. The blaugranes never looked comfortable during the first half and created little danger. As halftime approached, they had two back-to-back chance, the second for Martí Casas produced an excellent save in the 23rd minute from Oriol Codony. At half Igualada led 1-0 at the Olot Sports Pavilion.

Equaliser for Barça

The restart saw Aragonès, Alabart, and Casas all have chances to equalise in the opening moments. Igualada responded in kind but found themselves denied by their former teammate, Arnau Martínez. Barça were awarded another direct free hit, but Codony saved captain Alabart's attempt. The team finally found the equaliser as Alabart set up Nico Ojeda, who skillfully lifted the ball over Codony with a scoop shot to make it 1–1 in the 42nd minute.

Extra time

The match entered a phase of caution between the two teams. With only a few minutes remaining, everything pointed toward extra time, and the inevitable finally arrived. The overtime period featured little action until Marc Grau conceded a penalty two minutes before the break, Gerard Riba took it perfectly, beating Arnau Martínez to put Igualada ahead 2-1.

The blaugranes threw themselves into attack in search of an equaliser, and they found it. Once again, Nico Ojeda beat the opposing goalkeeper with a powerful long-range shot to make it 2-2 five minutes into the extra period.

Penalty shoot out

The second half of extra time was much calmer affair with neither side finding a way through. As a result, the Spanish Super Cup went to a penalty shootout. It proved to be an agonising affair. It took eight attempts per team, with both sides having opportunities to clinch the title. Llorca scored the fifth penalty to send the contest into sudden death, while Alabart converted the eighth. Then Arnau Martínez saved Riba's final attempt to seal a 5-4 shoot out win. A dramatic victory to become Super Cup champions.
