Nicolò Tresoldi could become the first player to command a transfer fee exceeding 40 million euros, according to analyst Wim De Coninck. The 22-year-old Club Brugge forward drew intense European attention after scoring a hattrick in a 4-3 Champions League match against Internazionale in Milan.

De Coninck suggested the valuation could climb even higher depending on market conditions. Maybe even 50 or 60 if English clubs start bidding against each other, De Coninck said via Sporza, pointing to Christos Tzolis’s strong start at Arsenal as proof that a 40 million euro price tag can ultimately resemble a bargain. UEFA subsequently named Tresoldi to its Champions League Team of the Week for Matchday 2, while he earned ratings as high as 10 out of 10 in several newspapers.

Summer Resistance and Rejected Bids From European Giants

Club Brugge’s valuation follows a turbulent summer transfer window at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Despite heavy interest, Bart Verhaeghe maintained a strict stance that Tresoldi was not for sale. AS Roma pursued the forward in late July with an offer approaching 35 million euros—a sum that normally triggers sales for Belgian clubs—only to receive a resolute refusal.

Manchester United and Barcelona also pursued the player aggressively during the summer window, with Spanish outlets reporting that Tresoldi reached a personal agreement with Barcelona. Club Brugge rejected those advances because the board felt no financial pressure to sell. The club generated more than 80 million euros in player sales during the summer mercato through departures like Tzolis, Aleksandar Stankovic, Raphael Onyedika, Jesse Bisiwu, Zaid Romero, and Shandre Campbell, leaving their bank accounts well-padded.

Player Evolution and Tactical Profile Under Ivan Leko

Ivan Leko and teammate Freddie Potts praised the forward’s development following his standout performance in Milan. Potts told Het Nieuwsblad that Tresoldi has proven himself to be one of the most promising strikers in Europe. Leko echoed that sentiment, emphasizing how much the player has matured.

Last season he was a top finisher, now he is truly complete, Leko told Het Nieuwsblad. He is really busy with his career. Finishing, pressing, combining with his teammates: he is a modern striker.

De Coninck highlighted similar qualities, noting that Tresoldi’s work rate extends far beyond scoring goals. The analyst observed that the forward routinely tracks back to his own penalty box to defend, combining elite efficiency with deep runs, raw speed, and a powerful long-range shot.

Winter Mercato Outlook and Record-Breaking Projections

While speculation mounts regarding a potential departure around the New Year, Club Brugge officials insist that a winter sale is not bespreekbaar. The ‘Not for sale’ sign remains firmly in place at Jan Breydel, as the club views Tresoldi as irreplaceable mid-season and aims to avoid the perception of operating purely as a selling club.

Nevertheless, media consensus in Belgium indicates that a future exit will likely see a new transfer record for the club. With Barcelona manager Hansi Flick reportedly maintaining interest and Premier League suitors circling, Club Brugge’s patience appears poised to yield an unprecedented financial return.
