Tottenham academy talent Oliver Irow has made a clear statement of ambition after being honoured for one of his brilliant recent displays.

Spurs decided to loan Irow out to Plymouth Argyle after his impressive spell at Mansfield Town in the second half of last season, and that has proven to be an inspired decision.

The 20-year-old Tottenham academy graduate has been in outstanding form for his new club, having already scored four times in 11 games across all competitions since his summer switch.

The Spurs starlet’s impressive performance at left-wing is one of the main reasons why Argyle sit just one point short of the summit in the League One table.

Tottenham starlet Oliver Irow says he is just getting started after winning Goal of the Month award

Oliver Irow has now won the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month award for September for his strike in the 3-0 win over Barnsley last month.

The Tottenham youngster’s goal came in the very first minute of the game, and it was certainly a goal worthy of the award.

The winger controlled a long pass on the left flank, cut inside past two defenders and rifled the ball into the top corner. Watch the goal below:

While the Spurs youngster is pleased to win the award, he is certainly not resting on his laurels, admitting that he is targeting a lot more goals and assists this season.

Irow told Tottenham’s official website: “It’s obviously an honour to pick up an award like this. It’s probably the best goal I’ve scored in my professional career so far, but most importantly it set us on the way to three important points.

“We’ve been in a really good moment as a team, and I feel really happy with my contributions individually as well. This is just the start though, and I hope I can contribute more goals and assists as we look to continue our good start to the season.”

The 20-year-old has his sights clearly set on breaking into the Tottenham first team in the future, although he realises that the path to that destination will be challenging.

Speaking to PA Sport earlier this month, Irow admitted he is inspired by his academy teammate Mikey Moore and wants to follow in his footsteps by breaking into Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

The winger said: “I think it’s hard because there’s a lot of players and all of us are trying to do the same thing. Mikey’s obviously done well to be able to break through but, like for myself, I’ve gone out to try and showcase what I can do and I feel like that was the best thing for me and for other players as well.

“Of course, I’m not going to speak on their behalf, but they’ve done the same thing. Gone out to try to prove themselves. I feel like everyone’s pathway is completely different and that’s fine. It’s just hopefully you can keep building and hopefully one day be able to play for Spurs.”
