BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — Novak Djokovic will bid for a 103rd career title after being handed a wild-card entry for the Swiss Indoors in Basel on Friday.

The 24-time major champion last played at the tournament in 2009. The ATP tour announced his participation in a post on X, along with the words “17 years on ...”

Play begins at the ATP 500 event on Oct. 26.

The 39-year-old Serb won the China Open this month, and needs one more title to tie Roger Federer on the all-time list. American Jimmy Connors leads with 109 in the Open era.

The wild-card invite comes after the Six Kings Slam, an exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia, was postponed until late December.

Last Saturday, a deadly missile strike hit Saudi Arabia’s international airport in Riyadh, killing 12 people and injuring over 300 others. It was the deadliest attack in any Gulf Arab country since the start of the Iran war.
