Gibson Yah revealed the Bristol City dressing room was "quite positive" following their draw with Stoke, shedding light on the mood in the Robins' camp and the impact Joe Williams had in the middle of the park.
The Reds extended their winless run but avoided what would have been a third straight defeat as they drew 0-0 with the Potters on Saturday afternoon. In what proved an incredibly tight contest, Yah had one of City's better chances midway through the first half.
Picked out inside the area by a Rio Cardines cutback, the summer signing took aim with his left foot. To both his and the travelling supporters' disappointment, he was unable to hit the target, instead steering well wide of the far post and behind for a goal kick.
Yah wasn't the only City player unable to make the most of the opportunities that fell their way, however, as Dom Ballard, Luke McNally and Sam Bell also had chances to snatch the points.
While the fact the Reds couldn't make their openings count was cause for frustration, the City squad were happy to have put in an improved performance, especially after their poor home defeat to Sheffield United a week prior.
Asked what the mood amongst the players was after the final whistle by BBC Radio Bristol, Yah replied, "Quite positive, especially after the losses that we have had over the weeks.
"I think this is something we can take away and next week, against Bolton, try and get the three points.
"I think it's very important [not to have lost]," he added. "Because you could see in the game against Blackburn, we didn't deserve to lose that game, and the game against Sheffield, we were just not good enough.
"Today, we really stuck together; I felt like the backline really put in a great shift today to help us get the point."
On his chance, the midfielder continued, "I'm very disappointed. With my quality, that's supposed to be a goal, but it's something I need to work on, and I'm working on it. It's good that I'm [getting] these chances, because normally I play lower on the pitch and today I was playing a bit higher.
"For sure, for the next game, I need to score a goal."
The conditions in Staffordshire on Saturday afternoon were not particularly conducive to free-flowing football. From well before kick-off, rain was swirling inside the bet365 Stadium, with the wind more than playing its part as numerous goal kicks and clearances hung high in the sky.
Stoke appeared to get a grasp of the wet playing surface before the Reds were able to, but as the contest wore on, Michael Skubala's side were able to establish a foothold in the game. In the eyes of Yah, the returning Williams had a big part to play in the middle of the park.
"We really fought for everything," he said. "It was also very nice to have Joe Williams back, because he's one of the players who puts up the fight and gives us the motivation to go, so we were very pleased that he was also back in the team again.
"The wind was not great," he added. "Some balls, when they went into the sky, they were hanging in the air, but under the circumstances you need to deal with it. It's not an excuse or anything; we have a problem with it, but so did the opposition.

"I think today was the first time I really experienced English football. To be honest, it was fun, it was nice, and I'm happy I'm playing it. I'm very grateful."
Yah's start against the Potters was his third in as many games. Since the extended international break, the Dutchman has established himself as a regular fixture in the Robins' midfield after what was perhaps a slightly slower than expected start to his City career.
The 23-year-old joined the Reds from FC Volendam during the summer transfer window and featured regularly over the course of pre-season, but was made to wait for his full competitive debut. After cameo appearances against both Birmingham City and Preston North End in the early weeks of the campaign, he was handed a start against Burnley at Turf Moor.

After an impressive outing against the Clarets, he has featured in all but one of the seven games City have played since. Slowly but surely, the Championship is starting to feel like home.
"I'm really enjoying it," Yah said when asked about his start to life in south Bristol. "I'm really loving it. In the beginning it was a bit difficult, because I wasn't playing yet, but the coach told me to just be patient, that I need time to adapt, and I feel like I'm adapting every week to English football.
"I'm getting more minutes, and I think we have a very lovely, very great team with all the guys trying to connect with each other and helping the young lads with the experienced players. I'm very happy where I am.
"We started our season very well, and I feel like the Championship, every week, is a new game," he continued. "If you play the team in first position, you can win that game, and if you play against the team last, you can also lose that game.
"I believe in the Championship; you have to expect the unexpected."
Yah and his City teammates will have their next chance to end this recent winless run and build on the positive foundation put in place against Stoke when they travel to the Toughsheet Community Stadium to face Bolton Wanderers this weekend.
