A midfield starlet, who was added to Tottenham’s academy in the summer, has made a great impression in his first few months at the club.
Tottenham now have a renewed focus on improving their academy set-up, as evidenced by the number of talented teenagers who arrived at Hotspur Way in the summer.
In their meeting with the Fan Advisory Board last month, Spurs stressed that there is now a clear focus on identifying and signing the best young players at Under-16 level.
One such youngster, who arrived from the Midlands during the summer, is already turning a lot of heads at the North London club.
During the summer window, Tottenham signed 16-year-old defensive midfielder Kwasi Senyah from Wolves after his outstanding performances in youth football over recent years.
In fact, the midfielder made his U18 debut at just 14 years of age at Wolves, and he has made an impressive start to his time at Hotspur Way after signing a first-year scholar.
Tottenham insider John Wenham, who is an authority on the club’s youth sides, has now revealed that some have likened the youngster to former Man United star Paul Pogba after watching him operate in the middle of the park.
Wenham told Tottenham News: “A few parents have told me about a player that is apparently unbelievable; he hasn’t played too much yet, but he came on as a sub on the weekend. Kwasi Senyah, the England Youth international signed from Wolves, the parents have been telling me he’s sensational.
“They’re saying he’s like a little Pogba, when he gets his career moving, I think he will be a decent player. I’ve had some parents reach out to me and say he’s absolute top table, they’re really blown away by him, it’s got to be sooner rather than later that he’s going to be starting [for the Under-18s].”
According to Alasdair Gold, as many as seven academy players have travelled with the Tottenham squad to Marbella for a warm-weather training camp this week.
Luca Williams-Barnett, Tye Hall, Callum Olusesi, Rio Kyerematen, Tyrese Hall, Reiss-Elliott Parris and 18-year-old goalkeeper Dylan Thompson are all training with the first-team squad in Spain.
The training camp represents a great opportunity for these youngsters to impress De Zerbi and his coaching staff, and potentially vie for some first-team minutes this season when the FA Cup gets underway.
It seems certain that Williams-Barnett is going to get competitive minutes sooner rather than later, with the 18-year-old still waiting for his Premier League debut despite looking a cut above the rest in youth football.
