Reds in focus

Liverpool head into Gameweek 8 after back-to-back wins across all competitions.

Víctor Munoz (£6.5m) and Alexander Isak (£9.0m) were the Reds’ top-scoring FPL players in Gameweek 7 in the victory over Brentford. Munoz and Isak both scored, with Isak collecting the maximum three bonus points and Munoz registering two bonus points.

Munoz had three total shots in the fixture, of which two came from inside the box. The midfielder is currently averaging 4.8 points per start in the league. Meanwhile, Isak has now scored in each of his last two Premier League appearances, having missed Gameweek 6 through injury.

Florian Wirtz (£7.2m) and Bradley Barcola (£8.0m) both registered assists in Gameweek 8, picking up five and four points respectively. Wirtz created nine chances against Brentford, which was the most chances created in open play by a player in a Premier League game since Sadio Mane against Burnley in 2021. Wirtz has now created 20 chances for his teammates in the league this season, more than any other player in the division.

In defence, both Virgil van Dijk (£6.4m) and Jeremy Jacquet (£5.1m) registered defensive contribution points. Defenders need to register 10 or more defensive actions (clearances, blocks, interceptions and successful tackles) in a single match to reach the threshold for achieving the additional points. Both Van Dijk and Jacquet registered 13 defensive actions each against Brentford.

Player spotlight: Bradley Barcola (£8.0m)

Barcola is now showing why Liverpool made him a priority target in the summer to bring him to Anfield - and Gameweek 8 could be another opportunity for him to deliver FPL points for his owners.

The France international was a constant threat in the 2-1 win at Brentford, even if he did not get on the scoresheet himself. His contribution was crucial to the winning goal, and he also struck the crossbar as Liverpool pushed to extend their lead.

Since making his first league start in Gameweek 4, Barcola has had seven shots of which five have come from inside the box and two have been defined by Opta as 'big chances'.

He has also created four chances for his teammates and is second across the Liverpool team for both expected goals (xG) and expected goal involvement (xGI) in this period, with only Isak having better expected numbers.

Barcola also featured for only 17 minutes against Villarreal in the Champions League win on Tuesday, as Andoni Iraola rotated his squad.

With an ownership of just 3.2 per cent, Barcola could be an excellent differential for managers looking for a new midfielder who can boost them up their mini-leagues.

Most-transferred-in

Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki (£8.0m) is the most-transferred-in player ahead of the Gameweek 8 deadline, despite not featuring in Gameweek 7. Cherki has had over 191,000 transfers in so far this week.

AFC Bournemouth’s Marcus Tavernier (£6.2m) is also proving popular with FPL managers with over 178,000 managers having added him in following his goal in Gameweek 7.

Gameweek 8 deadline

The Gameweek 8 deadline is on Friday evening (October 23) at 6:30pm BST.
