Uganda’s Cricket Cranes have barely broken a sweat in their last two games at the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers. The game against Gambia ended in under 12 overs, and the Mozambique win was even shorter, ending in just 38 balls.
While this was a simple workout for Uganda, it could also be a detriment because they haven’t exhausted their resources, with key batters lacking time in the middle and bowlers with zero mileage in their legs ahead of a crucial final game against the hosts.
The fourth win for the Cricket Cranes in four games had only 38 balls of action, with Juma Miyagi making up for lost time with a devastating spell of fast bowling that decided the contest. Miyagi finished with best bowling figures of 5/7 in his quota of four overs, with Enock Kasaija (4/4) getting in on the act with personal best figures and the wicket claimed by Alpesh Ramjani.
Mozambique paid for choosing to bat first against a side that is in no mood to give out freebies.
The run chase only lasted five balls, with Robinson Obuya picking up from where he left off yesterday; together with Raghav Dhawan, they knocked off the required runs to ensure a fourth win and one that makes sure of Uganda’s place at the Africa finals.
Unless disaster strikes, Uganda is certain to finish among the top two sides at the tournament, which ensures a safe passage for them to the finals next year. They take on Nigeria tomorrow in a game that will decide the overall winner of the tournament.
