Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC fought back to earn a 2-2 draw against Amus College WFC on Saturday, a result that sent them back to the top of the FUFA Women Super League table.
In a lively contest at Amus College Stadium, Agnes Nabukenya and Latifah Nakasi scored for Kawempe, while Edinah Wanda Nasipwondi and substitute Charity Katusiime were on target for the hosts.
The game was interrupted by a heavy downpour in the 78th minute before Kawempe defender Asia Nakibuuka was sent off eight minutes after play resumed, leaving the visitors to see out the closing stages with 10 players.
Despite the late setback, Kawempe held on for a point that takes them to eight points from four matches, having won twice and drawn twice.
They are level on points with KCCA Women FC and St Noa Girls FC but lead the standings on goal difference, having scored seven goals.
Kawempe started brightly and took the lead in the 25th minute when Nabukenya found the net.
Amus refused to be overawed by the visitors and drew level through Nasipwondi in the 43rd minute, ensuring the sides went into the break on equal terms.
The hosts returned with renewed purpose and took the lead for the first time in the 66th minute when Katusiime struck.
Their advantage lasted just a few minutes. Nakasi restored parity in the 68th minute with a fine finish from Kevin Nanyunja’s well-delivered corner, rescuing Kawempe from a second setback and setting up a tense finish.
Heavy rain forced the match to be suspended in the 78th minute, with the score still at 2-2. When play resumed, Kawempe suffered another blow as Nakibuuka was sent off in the 86th minute.
Amus pushed for a winner, but Kawempe held firm to secure a hard-earned point.
Saturday’s game was the fifth senior meeting between the two sides and their third in the FUFA Women Super League. It was also the first time their recent league meetings had ended in a draw.
Nabukenya’s opener was her third league goal of the season, putting her level with Auki Kigongo of Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC and Kamiyati Naigaga of KCCA Women FC.
She is now one goal behind She Corporate’s Jesca Namanda, who leads the scoring charts with four.
For Kawempe, the draw keeps them at the summit as they turn their attention to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League. Their domestic campaign remains unbeaten, and they will hope to carry that resilience into the continental challenge.
Amus, meanwhile, will take encouragement from their performance against one of the league’s leading sides. The draw leaves them 11th with two points from four matches, above Jinja United WFC, who are bottom without a point.
Elsewhere, She Maroons FC and St Noa Girls FC played out a goalless draw, with Immaculate Kizza earning the Woman of the Match award.
URA Ladies FC returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over Rines SS WFC. Shamusa Najjuma scored the decisive goal in the 77th minute to secure all three points for URA.
