Nottingham Forest won promotion to the Premier League in 2022 to end 23 years of hurt, and that group of players will live long in the memory.
As Oliver Glasner prepares the class of 2026 to face reigning champions Arsenal at the City Ground, Ryan Yates remains the only member of the promotion winning squad to still be at the club.
The captain of that team during 2022/23 was academy graduate Joe Worrall, and he would also lead the team in the Premier League for some of the first season back.
Now, after a pretty bleak spell with Burnley, Worrall is trying his best to make a name for himself once again with Wrexham, and yesterday he was in action for his home debut as they faced Preston.
Leader Live scored Worrall 8/10 for his efforts as he marked his home debut with a goalscoring performance. He headed home in the 31st minute to open the scoring as the promotion-chasing outfit won 4-1.
They wrote of Worrall’s performance: “Anchored the backline securely and contributed a crucial header to help drive Wrexham’s comfortable scoreline.”
Worrall has now made three appearances for his new club. The player made the switch to Wrexham in the summer transfer window and hasn’t really looked back.
This performance will have endeared him to his manager, Phil Parkinson, and he will now hope that one of the central defensive spots is his to keep.
Worrall needs games after his Burnley debacle. Playing games should see him come to the fore once again and prove to people that he’s a very good Championship defender on his day.
Forest fans will constantly remember Worrall for what he achieved at the City Ground, and given the ambitions of Wrexham, it’s hard to put it past him winning another promotion to go on his CV this season.
