Kinene backs Genesis to challenge Mukono

Genesis Women Pool Club coach Ben Kinene believes his side can challenge for the Uganda Women National Pool League title after learning from last season’s fifth-place finish.

As the new campaign cues off today, Sunday, October 18, 2026, Kinene says Genesis have corrected their mistakes and are targeting a stronger finish in their second season.

“Last year, we finished in fifth place and learnt a lot. We think we have corrected those mistakes and are not going to repeat them. We have faith that we can improve our position or even win the ladies’ title,” Kinene said.

Genesis have registered six players for the campaign, led by captain Sylvia Nankindu, alongside Natasha Ndibalekela, Joyce Nandugwa, Serena Ogumushabwe, Angel Namakula and Lucky Namugenyi.

Kinene said the club would work with the six players for now but could add more if an opportunity arises during the season.

“Those six are the ones we can manage at the moment, unless there is a window as the tournament progresses. This season, we have come to compete, not participate,” he said.

Genesis opens their campaign against two-time defending champions Mukono Ladies at 11:00 a.m. at Adi’s Spot in Kireka. Kinene sees the match as an early test of his team’s progress and believes beating the champions would send a strong message to their rivals.

“If we throw the champions, it will send a statement. Expect our players to exhibit quality and discipline, which is our nature, as we look forward to winning,” he said.

Mukono are chasing an unprecedented third consecutive league title after winning the last two editions. Mutesi, Naiga and Namutebi will be key players as they seek to maintain their dominance.

The opening fixtures will be played at Amigos in Kansanga and Adi’s Spot in Kireka.
