Aday Benítez has been appointed head coach of CD Mirandés in Spain’s Primera RFEF, taking over the bench just months after departing UE Europa. The 38-year-old manager agreed to terms following a managerial vacancy created by the dismissal of Antxon Muneta, who was removed after a 2-0 defeat away to Barakaldo.
The appointment ends months of waiting for Benítez, who held discussions with Girona sporting director Quique Cárcel during the summer before this opportunity materialized. The Valles-born coach steps into a demanding environment at Estadio Municipal de Anduva, located in Miranda de Ebro. CD Mirandés currently sits 11th in the Primera RFEF standings with 11 points from their opening matches. The club stands one point shy of the promotion play-off positions and 11 points behind group leaders CD Lugo, who occupy the sole automatic promotion spot following the team’s relegation from Segunda División last season.
Benítez returns to management after steering UE Europa to promotion into Primera RFEF and mounting a promotion challenge for Segunda División during the previous campaign. His managerial career began at CE L’Escala during the 2023-24 season, where he oversaw a successful run in Tercera RFEF. Now, he takes charge of a squad built with ambitions of an immediate return to the professional ranks. The roster features several players with extensive Segunda División experience, including goalkeeper Èdgar Badia, Iker Unzueta, Joaquín Fernández, Josué Dorrio, Markel Lozano, and Martín Agirregabiria, alongside former Girona B player Raúl Martínez.
CD Mirandés prepares for its next league fixture as Benítez conducts his initial training sessions with the squad in Miranda de Ebro. The club continues its push to close the gap on the promotion play-off places as the autumn schedule intensifies across the third tier of Spanish football.
