Barcelona face Newcastle and Manchester United competition for Benfica teenager Daniel Banjaqui

Barcelona have identified 18-year-old Benfica defender Daniel Banjaqui as a potential addition to their defence, according to Ekrem Konur.

The Portugal youth player has yet to establish himself at the highest level, but his performances have already attracted interest from some of Europe’s leading clubs. Barcelona’s interest reflects their long-standing willingness to invest in young talent, although they face competition from two wealthy Premier League sides.

Newcastle and Manchester United are also monitoring Banjaqui, with both clubs understood to be keeping a close watch on the teenager’s progress.

The prospect of three high-profile clubs pursuing the same player could create a significant battle for his signature if any of them decide to make a formal approach. No official offer has been made at this stage, but Banjaqui’s emergence has placed Benfica in a strong negotiating position.

The Lisbon club have built their reputation on developing young players and regularly see academy graduates move on to major European clubs. That experience means Benfica are unlikely to feel under pressure to sell cheaply, with any interested side expected to make a proposal capable of convincing them to part with one of their promising prospects.

For now, Barcelona, Newcastle and Manchester United remain at the monitoring stage. The lack of an official bid leaves the situation open, but the presence of three prominent suitors could increase the competition surrounding the 18-year-old.

Benfica are due to play Omonia Nicosie in their third Europa League match. The listed 1xbet odds for the fixture are 1.30 for a Benfica victory, 4.50 for a draw and 6.60 for an Omonia Nicosie win.
