• Maroons 4-1 Kataka
Maroons returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, thrashing Kataka 4-1 at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku on Tuesday to extend the visitors’ winless run in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to seven matches.
Abel Eturude, Fred Amaku, Darious Ojok and Jackson Nunda scored for the Prison Warders, who climbed to sixth in the standings, while Latif Ssenkubuge netted a late consolation for Kataka.
Maroons broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Eturude finished from close range after Emmanuel Obua’s long throw caused confusion in the Kataka defence.
Amaku failed to make clean contact with the delivery, but the loose ball fell to Eturude, who made no mistake from close range.
The hosts doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half, with Obua again involved in the build-up. The defender picked out Amaku, who fired a low effort past goalkeeper Solomon Okello in the 53rd minute.
Kataka struggled to contain Maroons’ attacking threat, and the hosts added a third in the 76th minute through substitute Ojok.
The forward dispossessed Martin Wambi before slotting the ball through Okello’s legs to put the result beyond doubt.
Another substitute, Nunda, completed Maroons’ scoring six minutes later. Introduced alongside Ojok in the 70th minute, the playmaker connected with Brian Nkuubi’s pass before curling a left-footed effort off the post and into the net in the 82nd minute.
The goal took Nunda’s tally to three for the campaign.
Kataka grabbed a consolation in the first minute of stoppage time when Ssenkubuge converted Abdulwahab Tumwine’s assist, but the late strike did little to change the outcome.
Obua’s influential contribution to Maroons’ attacking play earned him the Man of the Match award.
The victory lifted Maroons to sixth place, while Kataka remained without a win after seven league matches.
