Leicester City have made a slow start to their League One campaign.

Russell Martin’s side sit 14th and have largely disappointed, but there have still been some bright sparks in the team.

Leicester have shown some encouraging signs, and some of the summer signings have settled in really nicely along with the academy graduates.

With that said, we’ve ranked the top three best performances so far this season.

3) John Lundstram

Coming in on the podium is John Lundstram, who joined from Turkish top-flight side Trabzonspor in the summer.

Lundstram spent last season on loan at Hull City, and he gained promotion to the Premier League, so it was quite the coup to bring him to the King Power Stadium.

The 32-year-old has brought great experience to City’s ranks, and he’s already been given the captain’s armband by Martin.

Lundstram has added steel to City’s midfield and has scored two goals in his first four games for the Foxes, including a wonder goal against Doncaster Rovers at the weekend.

2) Will Alves

Will Alves was actually being considered for another loan move in the summer after his Huddersfield Town spell didn’t really go to plan.

But once Martin had a close look at him in training, the City boss had no doubts that he’d be in his plans and featuring heavily.

Alves has kept Tommy Watson out of the team, which says a lot considering the Brighton and Hove Albion loanee cost £10m last year.

Alves has been a livewire on that left-hand side and should have more than three goal involvements to his name this term.

With a bit more composure in the final third, the former England youth international could genuinely be the best player in the division.

1) Emil Riis

And finally, Leicester’s best performer this season has to be Emil Riis, who has scored four goals in five starts since joining from Bristol City.

Riis looks like the best number nine in the league by quite some distance and is well-placed to notch over 20 goals.

Martin said he was the club’s number one target all summer and quite evidently, the deadline day arrival was worth the wait.

The 28-year-old isn’t just a goalscorer; he’s also a great focal point and can link the play really well.
