Dallas Mavericks forward Daniel Gafford issued a bold message ahead of Friday night’s NBA Play-In Tournament elimination matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, which tips off at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. The winner will secure the eighth seed in the Western Conference and advance to face the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

Speaking with Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News, Gafford made it clear that Dallas is approaching the game with full confidence and a no-nonsense attitude.

When asked if he would classify this season as a disappointment, Gafford responded, “We’re gonna save that question for whenever it ends because we don’t plan on losing tonight.”

The Mavericks kept their postseason hopes alive on Wednesday with a convincing 120-106 victory over the Sacramento Kings. The win ended the Kings’ season and immediately triggered front-office changes, as Sacramento fired general manager Monte McNair following the loss.

The Mavericks have endured a volatile season following the February 2 trade that sent former franchise star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis and Max Christie. Dallas has dealt with multiple injuries to key players, most notably Kyrie Irving, who suffered a torn ACL in March, further complicating the team’s rotation.

Despite the roster upheaval, Davis has provided a stabilizing presence on both ends of the floor. In Wednesday’s win, he led the Mavericks with 27 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, one assist, and one steal while shooting nine-for-23 from the field and three-for-six from beyond the arc, showcasing his two-way impact.

Gafford also contributed nine points, four rebounds, two blocks, and an assist in the win, reinforcing his role as a reliable interior presence who brings energy and shot-blocking in critical moments.

Gafford’s defiant tone underscores the Mavericks’ mindset as they fight to extend their season. With the stakes at their highest and a first-round series against the Thunder on the line, Dallas will rely on its recent momentum, frontcourt production, and veteran leadership in what promises to be a high-pressure contest.
