Spurs Silver Dancers return to the dance floor after 8-year hiatus

The Silver Dancers were once disbanded ahead of the 2018-19 season.

The San Antonio Spurs announced the return of the popular Silver Dancers for the 2026-27 season after a seven-year hiatus. The image shows the San Antonio Spurs dancers performing during a time-out in game against the Los Angeles Lakers at AT&T Center on December 11, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.

Suddenly, it feels like 2014. The Spurs Silver Dancers returned to the court on Tuesday, October 20, ending an eight-year hiatus during San Antonio’s season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Fans have longed for this comeback for years, ever since Spurs Sports and Entertainment announced the Silver Dancers wouldn't return to the court because of a "lack of interest" ahead of the 2018-2019 season, according to past reporting from MySA.

At the time, the Spurs replaced the Silver Dancers with the Hype Squad, a co-ed dance squad that remains part of the organization. Ahead of the 2025-26 season, the team also formed the Spurs Jackals, a dedicated, high-energy supporter section created by Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. Both the Hype Squad and the Spurs Jackals are great additions to the fanbase, but nothing compares to the Silver Dancers.

However, those days are over. And the beloved squad is back.

The Spurs announced in June that the Silver Dancers would return for the 2026-27 season, shortly after the team's 2026 playoff run. The Silver Dancers trace their roots to the 1982-83 season, when the first squad debuted as the Quicksilver dance troupe at the old Hemisfair Arena. They predated the vaunted Spurs Coyote by half a season.
