Jefferson High School hosted Grant High School in Portland for a Friday night football battle.

Video emerged on social media displaying Grant players sprinting onto the field behind a teammate who was waving a large American flag.

But when the flag-bearer crossed the field, a Jefferson player rushed over and slammed him, sending him to the ground.

The flag was knocked out of the Grant player’s hands.

He then left the flag and joined other teammates in rushing toward the Jefferson instigator.

The clip quickly went viral on social media, with fans and spectators outraged over the Jefferson player’s conduct.

“Completely unacceptable !” one wrote on X.

“Insane. This should be national news,” another commented.

The Oregon School Activities Association said the Jefferson player was ejected from the game due to his conduct.

“Rivalry game or not, there’s no place for this behavior before, during, or after a game,” the group said.

The association added that it does not comment on disciplinary decisions.

A social media account that posted the original video of the incident has claimed the confrontation stemmed from a pregame scheduling dispute and was not meant as disrespect toward the US flag.

The account claimed that Grant players had been asked to not cross the center of the field during Jefferson’s senior night festivities.

The Grant Generals went on to dominate on the field, winning 35-14 over the Jefferson Democrats.
