Nick Sirianni seems to be in hot water over how the Philadelphia Eagles handled Jalen Hurts’ blood clots, and Boomer Esiason is pushing back. While some blame Sirianni for the mishap, others defend the Eagles head coach.
The former NFL MVP defended the head coach in a clip “WFAN Sports Radio” posted Tuesday, a day after the Eagles disclosed clots in both of Hurts’ lungs.
“This is not on the coach, I’m sorry,” Esiason said. “Well, it’s certainly not the coach. This is on the owner. This is on the medical staff, the doctors and the general manager. Those people are the people that are above the coach.”
The decision at the center of it all came in London. According to the team, a specialist there diagnosed Hurts with a superficial vein thrombosis in his left calf. Hurts still played in the Oct. 11 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a 19-17 loss. Esiason didn’t mince words: “To throw this all at the feet of the coach is absolutely asinine.”
Esiason described that burden in his defense of the coach: “And, you know, then the coach is the one that has to face the media. The coach is the one that’s got to answer all these medical questions. All he knows about is whether or not a guy can play or not.”
