As one of the most prolific Porsche 911 tuners out there, California-based Gunther Werks never fails to deliver something exceptional. Its rad custom P-cars come in many different flavors, from the brutal 1,067-horsepower F-26 to the more civilized (but still spectacular) GWR. But what they all have in common is their origin as a base 993 – the last air-cooled 911 generation and a favorite among fans.

Based on Gunther Werks’ Turbo platform, the project we’ll be looking at today is a special tribute limited to just five units. It was built to honor legendary British race car driver Martin Brundle, who competed in Formula One between 1984–1996 and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1990, among other achievements. Simply put, he was a force to be reckoned with especially in endurance racing.

Beauty On The Outside, Beast Underneath

Enter the spectacular Brundle Edition, made in collaboration with the legend’s daughter Charlie Brundle using her vast expertise in automotive design. She’d worked with McLaren, Aston Martin, and Jaguar Land Rover throughout her career, but now it came time to honor her father’s racing legacy alongside Gunther Werks.

Her biggest contribution is the car’s breathtaking livery – blue as the primary color and white graphics loosely inspired by Brundle’s helmet from back in the day. The interior is full of cool little details, such as plentiful red highlighting, Martin Brundle insignia embossed into the headrests, and one of his famous quotes on the dashboard. “The most important bit of the car is the nut holding the steering wheel.”

What Is The Brundle Edition Capable Of?

In the engine bay, there’s an air-cooled, four-liter flat-six developed by Rothsport Racing, complete with twin turbochargers. It’s the same powerplant found in regular Turbo builds, but Gunther Werks dialed it up to 860 hp and 600 pound-feet of torque. A 7,500-rpm redline brings about an amazing soundtrack, and power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a six-speed manual gearbox.

Curb weight is rated at just 2,700 pounds courtesy of the tuner’s proprietary carbon fiber body kit, all riding on a gorgeous set of 18-inch forged magnesium wheels. Premium Brembo brakes also make an appearance, together with an assortment of high-grade suspension components like beefy sway bars and active coilovers front and back.

Every new project from Gunther Werks is an absolute treat, and the Brundle Edition is clearly no exception. Together with Martin Brundle’s talented daughter, the crew did a spectacular job at evoking the Englishman’s motorsport legacy on yet another jaw-dropping 911. So, just big boss Peter Nam and his teammates doing what they do best, then.

Just like all the other builds that came before it, the Brundle Edition does a great job at illustrating why Gunther Werks is among the world’s finest when it comes to Porsche 911 tuning. Oh, and every example will come with a matching Bell HP77 helmet to sweeten the deal, as if it wasn’t sweet enough already. Unfortunately, there’s no word from the builder on pricing, but we imagine “cheap” wouldn’t be the appropriate word to describe it.
