Michael Carrick issues Manchester United injury latest in three-man update
Michael Carrick press conference after Manchester United 0-1 Man City

Michael Carrick has given tentative updates on three Manchester United players ahead of his side’s trip to Leeds this weekend.

The Red Devils are missing a number of key names as they look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.

They suffered a 2-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in midweek, which prompted Lisandro Martinez’s bombshell comments in the Spanish capital, taking aim at the club’s hierarchy and digging out director of football Jason Wilcox.

The defender has since apologised for his comments and is available for selection at Elland Road after a meeting with Carrick and Omar Berrada, but not before he had doubled down on his criticisms in another interview and a statement posted on social media.

Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo were two absentees in the defeat in Madrid, with the former suffering a thigh issue, while Mainoo picked up a knock in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham last weekend.

Benjamin Sesko, one of United’s two recognised centre-forwards, is struggling with a shin problem that has hampered him since the back end of last term.

"We will see about Luke and Kobbie,” Carrick said on Friday.

“Ben's got to have a few more checks. He's still a little bit further away."

As such, it remains to be seen whether Shaw and Mainoo feature against Leeds on Sunday, with Carrick insisting that his side are in “a good place” despite sitting 12th in the league.

They are also on a winless run of five games which stretches back to last month’s 4-0 victory over minnows Sabah on their return to the Champions League.
