Oliver Glasner was frustrated as Nottingham Forest blew more chances to remain goalless at home this season after a 1-0 reverse to Arsenal.
The Austrian head coach saw Liam Delap thwarted well by Ezri Konsa at the death, with Chris Wood and Murillo also missing late chances to score for the Reds.
Forest have to start sticking the ball in the net if they’re to avoid this season turning extremely sour before Glasner has even got his feet underneath the table at the football club.
After yesterday’s showing, Glasner did take some time to praise one Forest star, however. He felt he tormented Gabriel and Ezri Konsa from the very first minute, and he was very impressed with his display.
Forest might have lost a third successive game yesterday, but there are definitely some positive signs emerging from what Glasner is trying to do at the club.
Delap has scored once since signing for the Reds. His strike against Aston Villa has offered hope that he can score more goals, but he’s now gone three without finding the net.
Glasner refused to blame Delap last week for his miss against Crystal Palace. Now, he’s lauded the striker after a strong showing against Arsenal.
He said in his press conference: “We obviously buy strikers to score goals, but I thought Liam Delap had an outstanding performance today.
“He was incredible against Konsa and Gabriel; they’re potentially the best centre-back partnership in the world at the moment, and he caused them really big problems.
“He looked after the ball, he was running in behind and really for me, it was a top performance from him.”
Delap will return to his former club on Friday when the Reds go to Ipswich. Forest desperately need the talisman to start scoring goals and hopefully a big three points can be claimed on the road.
