Chelsea are reportedly interested in Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, but the latest coverage points to a possible move rather than a confirmed transfer.
FootballTransfers reported on 19 October 2026 that Chelsea are among five clubs interested in a potential deal for the England international. Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester City are also named in the report.
The report says Real Madrid would consider offers for the 28-year-old if he cannot establish himself in José Mourinho’s preferred starting XI. Fichajes and CaughtOffside have also reported interest from Chelsea and other Premier League clubs, with Fichajes relaying TEAMtalk’s account of contacts involving four English sides.
That puts Chelsea in the picture, not at the point of a completed agreement. The separate “inevitable” wording in the FootballTransfers article concerns Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, not Alexander-Arnold.
For now, the key question is what happens to Alexander-Arnold’s role in Madrid. The FootballTransfers report says he has started four matches this season and has more than four-and-a-half years left on his contract.
It also describes him as happy in Madrid while reporting that he is growing frustrated by limited game time under Mourinho. Those circumstances leave the door open to speculation, while making his place in the manager’s plans central to any possible move.
Alexander-Arnold is an England international and one of the most prominent names in the reported group of potential targets. But any move would involve more than Chelsea’s interest: the club would need to make an offer and reach an agreement with Real Madrid.
At Stamford Bridge, a right-back addition would also have implications for Malo Gusto. He is already part of Chelsea’s options in that position, so any reported pursuit would naturally raise questions about how the club sees its existing depth and Gusto’s role.
The defender’s minutes and his ability to work into Mourinho’s preferred XI are the immediate factors to watch. If his involvement changes, the clubs monitoring his situation could reassess; any transfer would still require Madrid to accept an offer.
That makes the current story one of reported interest, not a deal in motion. Chelsea are among the clubs being linked, while Alexander-Arnold remains under contract in Madrid.
Malo Gusto’s future at Chelsea remains relevant to any discussion of the club’s right-back options.
Chelsea’s defensive situation under Alonso provides further context for the club’s reported interest in defenders.
