Manchester United: Pressure mounts on Michael Carrick as sack race rivals start to pick up points
Michael Carrick press conference after Leeds vs Manchester United

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick remains favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Despite taking a half-time lead over fierce rivals Leeds United on Sunday, Carrick’s Red Devils were unable to hold on for a first win in six games as Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised in the second period.

Man United’s on-field worries have been compounded by events off the pitch, with Lisandro Martinez’s outburst towards the club’s hierarchy highlighting the tension at Old Trafford.

According to William Hill, Carrick is now 7/4 at being the next Premier League manager to be sacked. Currently no top-flight club has wielded the axe, despite poor form for a host of clubs.

Fulham’s Alvaro Arbeloa alleviated some pressure on his role at Craven Cottage with a 1-0 victory over Hull, with Crystal Palace’s Pierre Sage now second-favourite for the chop after the Eagles’ chastening 5-0 defeat to rivals Brighton at the weekend.

Spaniard Arbeloa is now priced at 7/1, with Frenchman Sage given odds of 9/4.

Matthias Jaissle’s positive start at Newcastle has faded after three losses in four games, including a 1-0 loss at home to Aston Villa. The German is priced at 8/1.

Roberto De Zerbi’s first win at home in the Premier League as Tottenham boss has increased his price up to 12/1, which is also the odds given for Oliver Glasner to be first Premier League manager to be sacked this season.

Similarly to De Zerbi, recent performances for Nottingham Forest - and poor displays at other clubs - has seen Glasner’s price rise slightly from 11/1 to 12/1.

As would be expected, managing a team rock bottom of the Premier League is not conducive to longevity. Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris has seen his price cut down to 11/1 following the Black Cats’ 2-0 loss away at Bournemouth, handing Cherries their first league win of 2026/27.
