Lewis Hamilton has been going against Ferrari’s calls from the pit wall in recent races, and as history has shown, that does not lead to success.

The seven-time champion has called the shots with his strategy in the last two races. In Malaysia, he objected to Ferrari’s call to pit for intermediate tyres after starting the race on slicks, which led to his comeback drive to P3.

But things were not as successful in Singapore. Hamilton did not pit under the virtual safety car, leaving him completing the race on used softs, which dropped him off the podium to P6.

Alex Jacques says Lewis Hamilton will not win the title with Ferrari if he does not follow the team

Ralf Schumacher sensed ‘friction’ at Ferrari, saying that Hamilton wants to be ‘the boss’ within the team. The 41-year-old has looked to install his own way of working since joining the team last year, sending private documents to senior management.

Bernie Collins suspects Hamilton is not ‘trusting’ Ferrari, given that he has disobeyed their calls in the past two events.

For Alex Jacques, the situation is not good for his championship aspirations with the team. He says that, if Hamilton continues to go his own way, he will fall in the same category as Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso; world champions that never won with Ferrari.

He said via F1 Nation: “When it’s so obvious, when the time loss is so stark, you’ve got to intervene on the wall. You’ve got all the data. You’ve got all the understanding. He has to come in there.

“The responsibilities for Ferrari is get a double podium. They’ve got a car capable of a double podium. The drivers have put it second and third. Don’t go looking at the other side of the garage. Don’t go scrapping amongst yourselves.

“There’s got to be a limit where they intervene with direct instructions from the pit wall to avoid stuff like that happening because yes, they’re going to scrap. If they’re in close proximity wheel to-wheel, there’s nothing you can do about wheel-to-wheel.

“They’re elite racing drivers. The adrenaline’s up. You can’t control that. You can control selling the strategy. And it’s interesting because for a long time at Ferrari, there was confusion about why they stuck with the strategist that they had.

“And you spoke to people at the team there and they were like, ‘He was very, very good at selling the plan’.

“At the moment, I would say day-to-day operations, they’re a lot better at strategy at Ferrari these days, but they’ve got to sell it and it’s got to be a direct instruction.

“Because for Lewis Hamilton, I’ll tell you, history shows you if you start doing your own thing and your own strategy, that is the path of Sebastian Vettel, that is the path of Fernando Alonso, that is the path of Alain Prost, that is not the way to the title. You need the full team unit surrounding you.”

Hamilton is currently sitting third in the standings, 111 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli. He has performed considerably better under the new regulations, but he has yet to find the cutting edge to win the title.

Hamilton reportedly has a contract until 2028, so he still has time to grab that elusive eighth world title. However, it is obvious that there is little trust between driver and team, which will not bode well for a championship challenge.
