Ghana’s Gwendolyn Duvor Klu won the girls’ doubles title at the J60 Loughborough junior tournament in England, which ended on 3 October 2026, weeks after her first titles in Accra.
The 16-year-old and her German partner, Helena Geissler, were unseeded. They beat British pair Isabella Rebel and Anna Wright 6-3, 7-6(3) in the final, according to the German Tennis Federation. It was Geissler’s first title on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior tour. The tournament ran from 28 September on indoor hard courts.
The win confirms Klu’s step up a level. J60 events carry more ranking points than the J30 events where she won her first titles. After those wins, people close to her told the Shropshire Star that she would stop playing J30 events and move to J60 and J100 tournaments.
Those first titles came in Accra in September. Seeded fourth, she beat top seed Winner Gakpo of Togo 6-2, 6-2 in the J30 singles final. She then partnered Gakpo to win the doubles 6-2, 6-1. The following week she reached both finals again at a second J30 event in the city. She told JoySports she had been nervous at the start of the singles final, having lost the same final a year earlier, and that a clearer tactical plan made the difference.
Klu qualifies for Ghana through her father, William. She made her debut for the country at the Billie Jean King Cup in Gaborone, Botswana, in July. She won three of her five singles matches and both of her doubles matches there, and Ghana finished ninth in Group III Africa. Before the event she told the BBC she felt honoured by the call-up. “Ghana gave me the opportunity first so I just took their call,” she said.
Klu lives in Telford, in Shropshire, and is a student at Ellesmere College, where she trains under the director of tennis, Stephen Welti. She is also a member of Telford Tennis & Padel Club. In July, the college’s tennis academy said she had two more years at the school to climb the junior world rankings.
