After a lengthy trial, he has successfully returned to football.

The defender signed a 10-week contract with Rotherham, keeping him at the club until late January.

An official announcement stated: “Rotherham United is thrilled to announce that defender Brandon Williams has signed a short-term contract until 23rd January 2027.

“The 26-year-old has officially joined the Millers, having trained diligently throughout pre-season and into late October at the club’s Roundwood training facility, demonstrating his fitness to manager Steve McClaren, Alex Bruce, and the coaching staff.”

Williams will don the No33 jersey for the League Two side.

Head coach Alex Bruce, who is the son of former United defender Steve Bruce, commented: “I am very happy he’s become a Rotherham player. He truly deserves it. He has earned this contract through hard work in pre-season and has displayed a fantastic attitude daily.

“He has shown a strong desire and motivation to play. Brandon has faced hardships in the past few years.

“I really wanted to give him this opportunity… not to hand out contracts carelessly, but when a player consistently exhibits eagerness and determination, even without being paid, it’s important to recognize that.”

“We must appreciate his journey and what kind of career he’s had, even at his young age.

“I’m ecstatic to have finalized this deal and to give him the chance to hopefully reignite his career.”

Williams is a product of Manchester United’s academy and made his debut in September 2019 against Rochdale.

He made 51 first-team appearances for the Red Devils, scoring once.

The full-back had loan stints at Norwich and Ipswich before becoming a free agent after leaving United in the summer of 2024.

He remained without a club for over a year after exiting Old Trafford and subsequently joined Hull City.

In May 2025, Williams received a 14-month suspended prison sentence following a car accident where he was driving nearly 100mph.

He was found guilty of dangerous driving for the incident that occurred in August 2023, which involved hitting another vehicle before crashing into the central barrier on the A34 in Cheshire.

As a result, the United academy graduate was banned from driving for three years and required to complete 180 hours of unpaid community service.
