The Gauteng Provincial BMX team dominated the Cycling South Africa (CSA) BMX Championships and SA Cup at PMB BMX Club in Pietermaritzburg from October 2 to 4.

Represented by 61 riders from Alrode, Cradle, Eduplex, Kempton Park and Send It, the province secured nine national titles, claimed 27 championship podiums and retained the inter-provincial cup.

The team competed in SA Cup rounds seven and eight on October 3, securing 22 class wins before claiming nine of the 19 national titles the following day.

A major highlight was retaining the inter-provincial cup at SA Cup 8 for the second consecutive time this year.

Nine Gauteng riders were crowned South African champions and earned the right to carry the SA 1 plate in their respective classes. Connor Froomberg, Reagan Mellon, Thubakgale Thubakgale and Gareth Kashula won all three races they entered, taking both SA Cup rounds and their national titles.

Gauteng also completed clean sweeps in the 8-and-under girls’, U8 boys’ and U16 boys’ classes, while Alex Limberg and Alex Whitehead finished first and second respectively in the elite men’s race.

“Well done to every rider who wore the Gauteng colours. Thank you to the parents, team managers, coaches, club committees and officials whose support made these results possible,” said Gauteng BMX chairperson Hendrik Fourie.

“Retaining the inter-provincial cup is a reflection of the depth and spirit of BMX in Gauteng. Congratulations to our new SA champions and to everyone who raced,” he added.
