Former Man Utd Star Shares Incident of Knocking Out Wayne Rooney, Leaving Him Unconscious on the Floor

PHIL BARDSLEY humorously confessed that he “s***” himself after knocking out Wayne Rooney.

The ex-Manchester United teammates famously had an altercation in Rooney’s kitchen back in 2015.

<p In footage first shared by SunSport at the time, Rooney is seen collapsing after being struck by a powerful punch.

The former striker, who was the United and England captain at the time, narrowly avoided hitting his head on a chair as he fell.

During an appearance on Call Yourself a Fan with Alex Brooker, Sean Dyche, and Jimmy Bullard, Bardsley shared his perspective on the incident.

“It was just a regular Sunday at the time,” the former full-back recalled. “We had a few days off between training, and that particular Sunday we went to The Bubble Room in Alderley Edge, a bar well-known to some of the lads.

Bardsley, 41, recounted the story on a recent podcast

“We started out to catch a couple of games – the half-one and the four o’clock game – and before long, you’re probably seven or eight pints in, and one thing led to another.

“We found ourselves back at his house watching his wedding video, which was quite odd. I think he enjoys a good singalong.”

On how the scuffle started, Bardsley said: “You’re in his home, you go along with it. Before I knew it, I saw him come out of the kitchen with a pair of pink boxing gloves, and I thought ‘what’s happening here?’

“He brought out another pair and said, ‘they’re for you’. I was like, ‘okay’. Not the best decision after 10 or 15 pints, that’s for sure.”

Rooney, now 41, was seen lying flat on his back following the knockout punch.

When asked if he was genuinely concerned, Bardsley, 41, replied: “Yeah, I s*** myself. He was out (cold) for a little while.

“He was the captain of United and England, and there was no phone signal where we were, his eyes were closed, and we thought ‘this could be a bit of trouble here’.

“Eventually, he came to, I’ve got a cut lip, he’s got a broken nose or whatever it was, and that’s the rest is history.”

The incident took place just a day after United lost 2-1 to Swansea while under Louis van Gaal’s management.

Rooney went on to score twice in his team’s next match, a 2-0 victory over Sunderland, beginning a streak of six consecutive wins.

Footage of the incident surfaced just hours before United faced Spurs in a crucial match for a top-four finish.

After scoring in his team’s 3-0 win, Wazza famously mimicked the knockout in his celebration.
