Harry Kane is not the most popular amongst West Ham United supporters, as he, of course, played for rivals Tottenham Hotspur. He also had loan spells at two more London rivals, Millwall and Leyton Orient. Kane even played against West Ham for the Lions.
In total, Kane scored 11 goals with six assists in 22 matches against the Hammers. He has scored only more against Leicester, Arsenal, Everton, Stuttgart, and Southampton. It is not likely that Kane will face West Ham again. He has no plans to leave Bayern Munich, despite the prospect of breaking Alan Shearer's Premier League record if he were to return to English club football.
Kane won the Ballon d'Or last night, so many English West Ham fans might have been pleased. He is the England captain and the country's top goalscorer. In Kane's acceptance speech, he listed many of his previous managers.
This included his Millwall boss Kenny Jacket, and his Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade. Kane also mentioned most of his Tottenham managers, including Harry Redknapp, Tim Sherwood, Ryan Mason, Mauricio Pochettino, José Mourinho, and Antonio Conte. However, Nuno Espírito Santo was left out.
Nuno managed Kane for just 14 games, where he scored seven goals with one assist. His record in the Premier League under Nuno was surprisingly bad, with just one goal and one assist in nine matches. Both came in a 3-2 win over Newcastle United.
Kane did not play his best under Nuno
The current West Ham manager's time at Spurs was brief, as he lasted just 17 games back in 2021. Kane did not play well under Nuno, as it was soon after he had failed to get the move he wanted to Manchester City.
Kane was late to Nuno's pre-season, as he held out for a transfer away from Spurs. Nuno then left him out of the Tottenham squad's opening game of the season, which was a 1-0 defeat to City, ironically. Nuno had to constantly bat away questions about Kane's future in press conferences.
When Kane finally played under Nuno, he was constantly dropping deep. This was a part of his game, as he could supply Son Heung-min with through balls. However, this time Kane only set up Son once under Nuno.
Kane did not make an effort on target as Spurs lost 3-0 to Manchester United in Nuno's final game. However, Kane did rediscover his form under Nuno's replacement, Antonio Conte. The Italian, unlike Nuno, was not mentioned in Kane's Ballon d'Or speech.
The striker also did not mention Andre Villas-Boas, who, in fact, gave him his Spurs debut. Sam Allardyce also did not get a shout-out, but he managed Kane for just one game. It is notable that Kane did not mention Nuno in his speech. However, given Nuno's time at Spurs was brief and that Kane was ineffective during this period, it is understandable. It was also during a time of uncertainty in Kane's career.
Nuno may feel snubbed as one of the few managers that Kane did not mention. However, he will be more disappointed, on a professional level, that he could not get the best out of Kane. Nuno's focus now is on West Ham's game against West Bromwich Albion this weekend. Therefore, it is unlikely that he will lose much sleep over Kane failing to mention him.
