New Delhi, Oct 28: South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen has claimed the No. 1 positions in the ICC Men's Test Bowling and All-Rounder Rankings after playing a decisive role in his team's innings and 31-run victory over Australia in the second match of their ICC World Test Championship series.
Jansen delivered an outstanding all-round performance, scoring 85 runs and taking five wickets for 33 runs in the first innings before returning figures of one for 34 in the second. His contributions have helped him rise in all three categories of the Test rankings.
The left-arm fast bowler is the first South African to top the Test bowling rankings since Kagiso Rabada in November 2024. He is also the first South African to become the No. 1 Test all-rounder since Vernon Philander achieved the distinction in August 2014.
Jansen has also climbed 13 places to 56th in the Test batting rankings following his valuable contribution with the bat.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has made significant progress in the Test batting rankings after his match-winning 179 against Australia.
Bavuma has moved up four places to second, reaching a career-best position. He now trails England's Harry Brook and has an opportunity to become the first South African to top the Test batting rankings since AB de Villiers in November 2015.
Bavuma's innings proved instrumental in South Africa's victory, further strengthening his standing among the leading Test batters in the world.
Australia fast bowler Scott Boland has climbed three places to sixth in the Test bowling rankings after taking five wickets for 81 runs in the match.
South Africa's Wiaan Mulder has also advanced, gaining 10 places to reach 43rd among Test bowlers after claiming five wickets across the two innings.
South Africa and Australia are locked in an intense third Test battle at Newlands, Cape Town. Riding upon half-centuries from Aiden Markram, Marques Ackerman, David Bedingham, and Marco Jansen scored half-centuries as South Africa posted 329 in 82.3 overs.
Mitchell Starc - the senior left-arm pacer - picked up another memorable six-for. Nathan Lyon picked up a couple of wickets.
