Pretoria Capitals assistant coach Shaun Pollock believes South African Test and ODI captain Temba Bavuma has evolved significantly over the past 18 months. Pollock is confident Bavuma will make a substantial contribution to the team in the upcoming SA20 season. Bavuma was the final player selected at the SA20 auction, with Pollock securing the experienced top-order batter at his base price.

Bavuma, 36, returns to the league after previously being part of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape squad that won back-to-back titles. He now aims to help the Capitals, who have finished as runners-up twice, go one step further. "I think Temba’s game has changed. He’s a different cricketer than he was 18 months ago. He has a very clear understanding of his approach," Pollock stated. He also emphasized the invaluable leadership and international experience Bavuma brings to the young Pretoria Capitals squad.

Bavuma expressed his happiness to be back in the league, especially with a franchise close to home. "It’s cool to be back in the mix with the guys. Not too far from home, Pretoria, led by Keshav Maharaj. I look forward to being a part of that team," he said, hoping for a championship run. SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith welcomed Bavuma’s return, praising his consistency in other formats and his bravery in entering the auction. Smith hopes Bavuma has a "cracking tournament" and silences any T20 doubts.
