TURKEY have appointed Sergen Yalcin as their new head coach after a disastrous start to their Nations League campaign.
Vincenzo Montella was immediately dismissed following a series of defeats in all four matches during the international break.
The Turkish Football Association acted swiftly to persuade Yalcin, 53, to accept the role.
The former midfielder had been without a managerial position since departing Besiktas at the conclusion of the last season.
Following a critical board meeting, Yalcin was identified as the likely candidate to remedy the issues left by Montella.
A statement read: “The Turkish Football Federation board of directors decided today, during their meeting, to appoint Sergen Yalcin as head coach of our national team.

“A four-year contract will be signed with the 53-year-old coach and his staff.
“Sergen Yalcin, beginning a new chapter in his career, will now utilize the experience obtained at the club level to lead our Crescent and Star-clad team towards the success of our national football team.
“As the Turkish Football Federation, we extend our best wishes to Yalcin in his new position and trust that this choice brings good fortune to our country and national team.”
Turkey, having faced an early exit from the World Cup last summer, finds itself in a precarious position at the bottom of their Nations League group.

They are currently six points behind, with a goal difference of minus nine, and only two matches left to play.
Yalcin’s first match in charge will be against Belgium on November 12, followed by a clash with Kylian Mbappe and the French team three days later.
However, the controversial coach has had prior disagreements with former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli.
The Italian famously attempted a cheeky backheel while in front of goal during a preseason friendly against LA Galaxy.
Yalcin, who was working as a pundit at that time, referred to Balotelli as “brainless”.
The Turkey squad he steps into includes Brighton left-back Ferdi Kadioglu and Manchester United’s Altay Bayindir, who has struggled for form.
