After nasty outbursts during Sunday’s El Clásico, Barcelona now face possible disciplinary punishment, making an already dismal week much worse. A supporter appeared to attack Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga during the visitors’ celebrations at Camp Nou, prompting the Spanish league to take action.

Camavinga’s outstanding build-up play had just set up Kylian Mbappe’s game-winning goal for Los Blancos. The mood swiftly became antagonistic as the winning Real Madrid players hurried to celebrate close to the home crowd at Camp Nou.

Leaning above the railings, a fan swung a flagpole aggressively at the French midfielder. In order to keep Camavinga from making any further physical contact with the irate audience, his worried teammates swiftly stepped in and dragged him away from the touchline.

Referee Juan Martinez Munuera saw the antagonistic crowd attitude right away. In his legally required post-match report, the official detailed the flagpole incident and the objectives launched, setting the stage for more regulatory investigation.

LaLiga executives have chosen to escalate the issue based on the referee’s formal submission and outside information. The Spanish top flight will formally submit the alleged assault to the disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), according to The Athletic.

In order to identify the people responsible, authorities will now examine stadium footage and match broadcasts. The severity of the punishment to be applied to Barcelona, who are currently awaiting their fate, must next be decided by the disciplinary committee.

The incident off the pitch completes a terrible few days for Barcelona. A devastating domestic loss to their greatest rivals has immediately exacerbated a humiliating Champions League loss at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
