With the Soweto derby taking centre stage this weekend when Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday (3.30pm), several new faces are expected to feature for the first time.

We look at six players who will likely be playing in their first derby.

Thapelo Mokobodi (Pirates)

The 23-year-old midfielder has quickly established himself as a central pillar for the Buccaneers after his move from Stellenbosch at the beginning of the season. Mokobodi has already made 13 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring twice.

Simphiwe Masilela (Pirates)

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start since his promotion from the DStv Diski Challenge team before the season started. He has made 10 appearances in all competitions.

Bulelani Sigomoshe (Pirates)

Sigomoshe, 26, is set for his debut in the derby after joining the Buccaneers from Milford recently as a replacement for injured Kamogelo Sebelebele.

Thabo Moloisane (Chiefs)

Moloisane, 27, is in line for his first derby experience. The defender has made seven appearances for the Glamour Boys since his switch from Stellenbosch in the off-season.

Rushwin Dortley (Chiefs)

The 24-year-old centre-back returned from a long injury layoff against TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout win and is in line for his first derby appearance. Dortley joined Chiefs in the 2025/26 season but missed the derby fixtures due to a long-term knee injury.

Faiz Abrahams (Chiefs)

The 21-year-old attacker who joined Amakhosi on loan from Stellenbosch earlier in the season is in contention for his derby debut.
