Munster have brought in former Leinster winger Rob Russell as short-term cover as injuries continue to stretch their resources in the backs.
The former Ireland U20 international, who can also play at full-back, has been training with Clayton McMillan’s squad in recent weeks.
Russell made 35 appearances for Leinster, scoring 18 tries, before joining Gloucester in the summer of 2025. He left the English club at the end of last season and has since been playing for Old Belvedere in the All-Ireland League.
His involvement comes as Munster prepare to host the Sharks at Thomond Park on Saturday, with Shane Daly and Seán O’Brien both ruled out following last weekend’s defeat to Leinster.
Daly sustained a concussion and has started the return-to-play protocols, while O’Brien is unavailable due to a groin injury.
McMillan confirmed that Russell and former Ireland Sevens player Hubert Gilvarry have been providing additional cover following a run of injuries in the outside backs.
Both have impressed within the group, although Russell will not feature against the Sharks.
Munster will be looking to bounce back from their 24–18 loss at the Aviva Stadium when the South African side visit Limerick for their final game before the November international break.
Saturday’s clash kicks off at 5.30pm, with a Halloween Fan Zone and fancy dress competition taking place ahead of the game.
