Nicolás Roger is on his way to the Top 14. Vannes have signed the Puma on a contract for the remainder of the 2026-2027 French season. The signing comes as a joueur supplémentaire rather than a medical joker. It sees the Top 14’s basement team boosting its options six rounds into the regular season.
The move sees the Argentine fly half now positioned in an elite professional environment in the final season before Rugby World Cup 2027. It is a second opportunity for the Argentine in an elite European league. He played as a medical joker for Benetton in the United Rugby Championship (URC) last season.
Roger has 5 caps for Argentina. He made his test debut against England in 2025. Despite not being named on current roster, Roger started for Los Pumas in the previous match which was a draw against Australia in Mendoza. His other test start was against Uruguay in Salta weeks after his debut against England.
His test debut for Argentina came on the back of an impressive Super Rugby Americas (SRA) 2025 season for Los Tarucas. He returned from Italy to join Los Dogos late in the 2026 SRA season and started in the final against Los Pampas.
Vannes has a healthy contingent of Argentines on its roster. Roger joins Pumas tight head Santiago Medrano, flankers Francisco Gorrissen and Juan Bautista Pedemonte, and Pumas second-rower centurion Matías Alemanno. Uruguayan cap Jean Cotarmanc’h also plays for Vannes and, like Roger, is a fly half.
Roger and Alemanno have both featured for Argentina in test matches this year. Pedemonte has not but has played for Los Pumas during the Felipe Contepomi cycle (2024-present). Medrano and Gorrissen last played for Los Pumas under Mario Ledesma.
