When it comes to breaking a legend's records, usually it is a future legend who does it. That is just what happened during the UEFA Champions League (UCL) between Real Madrid vs AS Roma on October 14. Kylian Mbappe took the field, and the moment the starting whistle was blown, the game was official. As a result, Mbappe broke a world record that Lionel Messi had held for 11 years.
Mbappe became the youngest to play 100 UCL matches. He broke the record set by Messi in 2015. The France star achieved the feat at the age of 27 years, 198 days. Messi had done it when he was 28 years, 84 days. Both happened to be against Roma in Roma's own backyard. Messi was, of course, representing Barcelona.

Messi and Lewandowski have scored more goals in their 100th appearance in the UCL with 81 and 77 respectively.
In the tournament, Mbappe has, at the moment, played for three clubs. In nine games for Monaco, he scored six times. For PSG, it was 42 goals in 64 games. So far, he has found the back of the net 24 times in 27 appearances for Real . He scored in the milestone game as well with a goal in the 25th minute to give Real the lead.

Mbappe turns 28 in a little over two months. How many more Messi records will he break? He's a legend in the making, and many already consider him one. When he exits the game, it shall be interesting to see how much he has achieved. At the moment, he is in prime form and the world is getting to see Mbappe at his best.
