Victor Osimhen scored as Galatasaray came from behind to defeat Lille 4-2 in an entertaining UEFA Champions League league-phase encounter on Wednesday.
The Nigeria striker struck in the 61st minute to extend Galatasaray’s lead after Nabil Bentaleb’s own goal had put the Turkish champions ahead early in the second half.
Galatasaray made a flying start, taking the lead after just two minutes through Yunus Akgün, but Lille responded five minutes later when Soriba Diaoune scored to restore parity.
The hosts took the lead in the 39th minute through Diaoune’s second goal of the match, putting Galatasaray under pressure after their early advantage.
However, Roland Sallai equalised for the visitors in the 44th minute to ensure both teams went into the half-time break level at 2-2.
Galatasaray regained the lead seven minutes into the second half when Bentaleb turned the ball into his own net in the 52nd minute.
Osimhen then struck nine minutes later, finishing a move created by Barış Alper Yılmaz to give the visitors a two-goal cushion and strengthen their grip on the contest.
Lille attempted to fight back but could not find a way past Galatasaray’s defence as the visitors held on to secure an important away victory.
The result gave Galatasaray a significant boost in their Champions League campaign, with Osimhen’s goal underlining his importance to the Turkish side’s attacking ambitions.
