Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare brought up 100 goals in his senior career by scoring in Ajax’s 2-0 UEFA Conference League win against Atalanta on Thursday.
Arokodare entered the match in the 66th minute and found the net late on. In the 87th minute, he brought down a long ball before beating the Atalanta goalkeeper to seal his personal landmark.
The Nigeria international marked the achievement with a message on social media, expressing appreciation to God and to those who have helped him during his career.
“100 career goals. I am grateful for this journey and for the road God has laid before me,” he wrote. “I thank God and everybody who has been part of getting me to this point. The journey goes on. God is the greatest.”
His century is made up of 22 goals for Latvian club Valmiera, 21 while on loan at France’s Amiens, and 41 for Belgian outfit Genk. He also struck six times for Wolverhampton Wanderers, eight times for Ajax and twice for Nigeria.
Ajax’s result carried added significance, ending their run of eight matches without a win against Italian opponents. It also provided a strong reaction after their Conference League opening loss to Hajduk Split.
