Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has praised his players for their defensive strength, tactical discipline and ability to adapt after the Buccaneers secured a 1-0 victory over African Stars in the CAF Champions League.

The Soweto giants claimed an important away win in the first leg, giving themselves an advantage ahead of the return fixture in South Africa. Ouaddou was pleased with the team's performance, particularly its ability to maintain a clean sheet and protect its narrow lead.

Pirates Impress With Defensive Discipline

Playing away from home in continental competitions can be challenging, but Pirates showed resilience and composure to secure the desired result against their opponents.

The Buccaneers remained organised at the back, limiting African Stars' opportunities and demonstrating the discipline needed to manage a difficult away fixture.

Their ability to adapt to the conditions also proved valuable, allowing them to leave with a result that puts them in a promising position ahead of the second leg.

Ouaddou Believes Pirates Could Have Scored More

Despite being satisfied with the victory, Ouaddou believes his team had opportunities to increase its advantage.

Pirates created chances during the encounter but were unable to convert enough of them into goals. The coach will therefore want his players to show greater efficiency in front of goal when they return to action.

Nevertheless, the clean sheet and overall commitment displayed by the team were encouraging signs as the Buccaneers continue their pursuit of continental success.

Warning Against Complacency Ahead of Return Leg

Although the 1-0 victory gives Pirates an advantage, Ouaddou is aware that the tie is not yet decided.

African Stars still have an opportunity to fight their way back into the contest, meaning Pirates must remain focused and avoid underestimating their opponents.

The coach will expect his players to recover properly, prepare thoroughly and maintain the same level of tactical discipline in the return fixture.

With the decisive match scheduled to take place in South Africa, Pirates will hope to make the most of their home advantage and the support of their supporters.

Group Stage Qualification Remains the Goal

Reaching the CAF Champions League group stages remains a major objective for the Buccaneers as they look to strengthen their position in African football.

Their first-leg victory has given them a solid foundation, but another composed performance will be necessary to secure qualification.

For Ouaddou and his players, the immediate priority is to finish the job against African Stars and ensure that their continental campaign continues.
