Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed his preliminary squad for South Africa's upcoming double-header against Kenya in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for November.
As reported by iDiski Times, Mosimane has chosen a 38-player provisional roster in preparation for the crucial matches against the Harambee Stars, who are coached by former Bafana striker Benni McCarthy.
This selection features several noteworthy players, including some returning talents and new faces, reflecting Mosimane's efforts to build his team after a strong start to his second term with the national squad.
Aden McCarthy has been included due to his impressive performances for Sabah FK, and Boitumelo Radiopane also makes the provisional list. Meanwhile, players like Luke Le Roux and Mbekezeli Mbokazi have been recalled.
Uncapped AmaZulu defender Nkosikhona Radebe and Richards Bay's Nqaba Xulu have also caught Mosimane's attention.
Since this 38-man list is preliminary, Mosimane will need to trim the roster before finalizing the team for the two upcoming matches.
Bafana will play against Kenya at Orlando Amstel Arena on Friday, November 13, and then face them again in Nairobi on Tuesday, November 17.
This encounter holds particular importance for McCarthy, as it will mark his first time facing his home country in his role as Kenya’s head coach.
Currently, South Africa is at the top of Group D, having won their first two qualifying matches — defeating Guinea 2-1 and securing a 5-0 victory over Eritrea. They also triumphed over Egypt with a 1-0 win in a recent friendly played in Cairo.
These results have set a positive tone for Mosimane's new tenure, but the upcoming clashes with Kenya will serve as another crucial challenge in South Africa's quest for qualification for the 2027 AFCON.
With the final squad yet to be determined, competition for spots remains fierce as Mosimane evaluates his options for the November matches.
