Knowledge Musona, a former striker for the Kaizer Chiefs, has signed on with Scottland FC of Zimbabwe, where he will serve as an assistant coach in addition to his playing duties.
R18 million was the annual salary of the former Kaizer Chiefs star.
The 36-year-old forward is reportedly taking on new duties off the field as he prepares for a career as a player-coach. Under interim head coach Peter Ndlovu, he will keep playing while also helping out the club's technical staff.
After losing in the CAF Champions League, Scottland FC made a number of coaching changes, including the hiring of Musona.
In addition to his role as second assistant coach under Ndlovu, Musona has been named player-coach, according to Soccer24. He will have to juggle his responsibilities as a forward and an assistant to the coaching staff because of his appointment.
This follows Scottland FC's dismissal of head coach Norman Mapeza following their elimination from the CAF Champions League. Under interim management, the club will try to finish the season strong.
Musona has extensive experience in his new role, having played professionally for multiple clubs in various leagues.
Musona became a household name among Amakhosi fans and South African football fans alike during his tenure at Kaizer Chiefs, where he scored goals at will.
Following his time in Europe, where he made appearances for clubs in Germany and Belgium, the Zimbabwean international continued his career in Saudi Arabia.
With his experience, Musona returned to Zimbabwean football in 2025 as he joined Scottland FC.
He has taken the next step in his career with his most recent appointment, which will enable him to contribute on the field and in the technical department.
The arrangement of a professional football player simultaneously taking on coaching duties is unusual. But it's a chance for seasoned players to keep competing while they hone their tactical acumen and leadership abilities.
When Musona starts helping out the coaching staff at Scottland FC, his background at both the club and international levels could be a huge asset.
Though he is still intent on making an impact on the field for the time being, his new role does hint at a coaching career down the road.
As Scottland FC progresses under Ndlovu's interim leadership, the former Kaizer Chiefs star will need to juggle both responsibilities for the time being.
