Chippa United’s coaching situation has taken another unexpected turn, with Dan Malesela reportedly facing uncertainty over his next move following his renewed association with club chairman Siviwe Mpengesi.

Malesela has had several spells in charge of the Eastern Cape club, with his relationship with Mpengesi often attracting attention because of the club’s frequent coaching changes. Their latest chapter comes after Malesela took on a different role in football development, focusing on the Africa Football School of Excellence, which was acquired by Mpengesi’s company in late 2025.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns player has considerable coaching experience in South African football. His previous spells at Chippa United have shown how quickly circumstances can change at the club, where results and the chairman’s decisions have often determined the direction of the technical team.

However, the latest developments come at a time when Chippa are working under head coach Brandon Truter. The team suffered a 4-0 defeat to Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout Cup on Saturday, October 24, 2026, increasing scrutiny of the club’s performances and the coach’s position.

Truter has publicly pushed back against speculation about his future, arguing that the team has made progress compared with the previous season and that coaches need time to develop their ideas. He also acknowledged the pressure to win matches and improve results.

For Malesela, the situation raises questions about what comes next in his working relationship with Mpengesi and whether he will remain focused on youth development or return to senior-team coaching in the future. No confirmed appointment placing him back in charge of Chippa United was established in the available reports.

The unfolding situation once again highlights the uncertainty surrounding coaching roles at the club, with supporters waiting for clarity on the next steps.
