3 South African Stars Cause Huge Chaos in USA as MLS Fate Decided

South African Trio Celebrate MLS Play-Off Qualification

South African football has received a major boost in the United States after Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Puso Dithejane and Lyle Foster celebrated qualification for the 2026 Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup Play-Offs with their respective clubs.

Mbokazi and Dithejane helped Chicago Fire secure their place in the postseason, while Foster will represent Houston Dynamo as the three South African stars prepare for an opportunity to compete for one of American football's biggest domestic honours.

Chicago Fire confirmed their qualification despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night. Matt Polster scored the decisive goal in the first half, handing the hosts all three points.

Mbokazi started the encounter and continued to feature in Chicago's defensive setup, while Dithejane entered the match as a second-half substitute as the visitors attempted to find an equaliser.

Despite the defeat, Chicago had already accumulated enough points to secure their postseason place following results elsewhere in the Eastern Conference.

The achievement represents a significant milestone for the club, which has now qualified for the MLS Cup Play-Offs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2009.

Chicago also demonstrated their attacking intent, recording 19 shots compared to New England's five. However, goalkeeper Matt Turner produced an impressive performance to preserve the home side's advantage.

Meanwhile, Foster will be hoping to make his mark after Houston Dynamo also secured qualification for the 2026 play-offs. The achievement comes after the club missed out on the postseason in 2025 and marks their third qualification in four seasons under head coach Ben Olsen.

The South African striker joined Houston on loan from English club Burnley in September, bringing valuable European and international experience to the American side.

His movement, pressing ability and attacking qualities could prove important as Houston prepare for the knockout stages.

The MLS Cup Play-Offs are scheduled to begin on November 18, with the final set for December 18.

South African supporters will now be watching closely as Mbokazi, Dithejane and Foster aim to help their respective clubs pursue MLS glory.
