Experienced South African defender Kgotso Moleko recently opened up about his transition to Lesotho Premier League side Lifofane FC, revealing that the club pursued his signature for several months before securing his services.
The veteran right-back, who previously enjoyed a notable career with Kaizer Chiefs, joined the Lesotho club after a spell with Mangaung Unite in the South African third-tier ABC Motsepe League. Lifofane first showed interest in Moleko around December 2025, right after his opening match for Mangaung Unite in Bloemfontein. At the time, the defender was rebuilding his physical fitness after returning from a long-standing injury. The club's management was impressed enough to propose a transfer during the January 2026 transfer window.
However, Moleko chose to turn down the early offer to remain loyal to Mangaung Unite. His South African side was actively competing for the Free State provincial title and aiming for promotion to the professional ranks.Moleko felt an obligation to help the team complete its campaign, leading to an agreement with Lifofane that any potential move would take place only after the national promotional playoffs.
Lifofane respected his decision and waited until the conclusion of the season. Although Mangaung Unite ultimately fell short of winning promotion in the playoffs held in Mthatha, Moleko’s leadership and experience were instrumental in securing their provincial league title.
Once the campaign ended, Moleko completed his move across the border. Lifofane signed the seasoned defender to strengthen their squad following a impressive second-place finish in their domestic league, aiming to push for the championship title. Moleko quickly made an impact at his new club, earning a Man of the Match performance during a decisive 3-0 victory over Villa FC.
For Moleko, this move offers a fresh opportunity to maintain high-level competition, regain momentum, and share the expertise gained from years in top-tier South African football. His career transition underscores how patience, loyalty, and professionalism can open new pathways for veteran athletes looking to extend their playing careers.
