Former Orlando Pirates head coach José Riveiro is facing increasing pressure in Sweden after his current team, AIK, were held to a 2-2 draw by IFK Göteborg, extending their winless run to five consecutive matches.
The disappointing result has raised further concerns about AIK's recent performances, with the Swedish side recording three defeats and two draws in their last five outings.
Riveiro, who previously enjoyed considerable success with South African giants Orlando Pirates, is now tasked with finding a solution to his team's struggles and restoring confidence within the squad.
The Spanish tactician built a strong reputation during his time at Pirates, guiding the Soweto giants to multiple domestic trophies and establishing them among the country's leading football clubs. His achievements earned him recognition before he departed South Africa to pursue a new challenge in Swedish football with AIK.
However, his latest chapter has proven difficult, with the team's inconsistent performances placing the coaching staff under mounting pressure.
Despite having an opportunity to return to winning ways against IFK Göteborg, AIK were unable to secure maximum points, leaving Riveiro searching for answers as he attempts to reverse their fortunes.
Attention will now turn to their upcoming clash against IK Sirius on October 24. Facing the current league leaders presents a significant challenge, particularly given AIK's recent struggles.
Nevertheless, a victory could provide the team with a much-needed confidence boost and ease the pressure on Riveiro. Another disappointing result, however, would extend their difficult run and intensify scrutiny of his leadership.
For now, Riveiro's priority is to improve AIK's consistency, restore the players' confidence and guide the Swedish club back to winning ways.
