Junior Khanye Names Chiefs Players He Believes Are Not Good Enough

Junior Khanye, a former player for Kaizer Chiefs and an analyst for iDiski TV, has expressed his disagreement with the decision made by head coach Fernando Da Cruz to not start Lebohang Maboe in the club's CAF Confederation Cup loss to Red Arrows.

In the second leg of the competition, which took place in Zambia, Chiefs were ousted from the competition after suffering a 1-0 loss in Zambia and then losing 3-2 on penalties in Durban on Friday. In the second leg of the match, Bradley Cross scored for Amakhosi, which brought the aggregate score to a tie and forced the match to take place in a shootout. Unfortunately, the South African team was unable to qualify for the next round.

With this setback, the Chiefs' dreams of advancing to the group stage were dashed, as it was the first time in the past two seasons that they had failed to advance to that round. In addition to this, it brought their victoryless streak across all competitions to a total of seven matches.

After suffering an injury that forced him to miss numerous matches, including the first leg, Maboe was brought in as a replacement during the second half of the encounter. Before missing a penalty in the shootout, he played for seventeen minutes of the game.

Khanye questioned why Da Cruz chose to include Maboe in the match-day squad but did not choose him to start. Khanye argued that the fact that Maboe was available as a substitute created doubts about whether or not he could have started the game.

The fact that Maboe was included on the team roster came as a surprise to me. Perhaps he should have started Mthethwa instead of Maboe. The statement was made by Khanye on iDiski TV.

He went on to say that the coach ought to have considered utilising Maboe from the outset rather than Sibongiseni 'Ox' Mthethwa given that Maboe was in a position to play after the interval if he was healthy enough to do so.

In addition, Khanye expressed issues with other selection decisions, citing earlier trials in which Reeve Frosler and Thulani Mabaso were involved. The performances of the team, he said, were a reflection of the limits that existed inside the group.

Pule Mmodi's contributions were called into doubt, and the analyst expressed unhappiness with Mthethwa, Faiz Abrahams, and Inacio Miguel. The expert was particularly critical of the Chiefs' midfield and attacking options.

According to what he said, "The coach has faith in players like [Pule] Mmodi, who I do not believe contribute anything to the team."

After that, Khanye went on to say that some of the players on whom the team relied were not good enough for the club, despite the fact that those comments represent his own evaluation rather than an established evaluation of their capabilities.

In light of the fact that their continental campaign came to an end in the preliminary stage, Chiefs are now under more pressure to improve their inconsistent performance. There is a good chance that supporters and experts will continue to examine topics such as Da Cruz's team selection, the depth of the roster, and the club's capacity to turn around their form.
